At Christmas, time spent with the people you love is precious. For the children at Great Ormond Street Hospital who are too ill to go home this Christmas, that time feels even more precious. In December 2015, at only 17 months old, Ben came down with what seemed to be a cold. But after a few days, it became clear he wasn't his usual self. He quickly became very ill. He was unresponsive and couldn't wake up. And when he was taken to the local hospital he had a seizure. The doctor called GOSH for advice and then GOSH sent an ambulance to collect him. After two hours in intensive care the doctors told him mum Viki that Ben had meningitis. When Ben first woke up from an induced coma, the meningitis infection had left him blind, deaf and with uncontrolled limb movements. Viki spent Christmas on GOSH's neurology ward as the medical team fought to control the infection.

Now age four, Ben's sight is getting much better and, together with his twin brother James, he has designed a Christmas card for us.

    • Stella Solihull 05/01/2019 A Happy Card that will make you Smile! Always on the lookout for a card that's a bit different, I've found it! It's a lovely, cheerful card and the recipient won't be able to resist smiling. It was also the story of the twins, Ben & James that caught my eye and made me look closer. I had hoped that their story would be printed on the back of the Christmas card so that my friends and relatives would get a glimpse of the fantastic work that GOSH does. I will, however, spread the word. Well Done to Ben and James.
